The knock came as a sudden surprise to Sar'versa. How they got past his sight was beyond him. Yet the hit was clear in his mind, a sudden bang and a bright light came from the back of his head and filled his vision. The darkness. Chilling and silent darkness that reminded him of the fear of his murdered brothers and sisters. It sprouted through the bottom of his mind into a dark and twisted tree of fear and tortured memories.
The ground was hard and black. A few silver specks where scattered on the ground, giving off a painful glow. His eyes slowly slid open as he pushed himself to his feet. The world seemed to spin, the sky a void of blackness with swirls of vivid colours that flowed through the sky like groups of singing birds or schools of fish. Everything came to a halt and in front of Sar'versa stood a tree. The one with it's branches twisted, it's leaves dead and it's bark black like coal. Pear shaped fruit hung off the massive branches of the trees that curled like old and wicked fingers. The fruit where polished, reflecting the swirls of colours that floated through the void above him.
Sar'versa took steps towards the tree, mindlessly. Approaching one of the black polished fruit.
As he came closer, the black fruit suddenly looked as if it was made up of shattered glass, each shard inside the fruit reflecting an image which looked like Sar'versa. It didn't take long for him to realise that it was not his own reflection in the fruit, but instead a old and forgotten memory of his. It was him, a younger him, unscarred and happy. Playing with his brothers and sisters. He began to tremble in misery. His hand trembling, lifted itself and plucked the fruit from the tree. Quickly, the shattered image inside the fruit changed, his happy and younger self, suddenly trapped with a fear of expression, and the flickering light of fire in his eyes. No sound came from the fruit, but he knew what happened that day. The shouts of the guards where clear in his mind as they burnt down his home and slit the throats of kin.
In an act of fear and anger, Sar'versa through the black polished fruit on the ground, where it shattered into a million silver specks that glowed painfully. The light from the silver sparks grew into this blinding light that suffocated Sar'versa, and then it was nothing but chilling darkness.
The ground was uncomfortable, and the pain in the back of his head was real and throbbing. The smell of smoke filled his nostrils. His eyes shot open, and he sprung to his feet. The heat on his back was unbearable. Twisting his body, he looked at the burning wooden gate, and the smouldering corpses of the guards who knocked him out. He took a few steps back, and assessed his situation. He was inside the castle, which was both a blessing and a curse. He needed to think quick as guards would be here any moment. He quickly took his spear off the guards who captured him, and turned around, facing the inside of the castle. He owed that mage for saving him, but he would repay that man later, for now, he needed to focus on the mission. Which had became a lot harder for him, now being inside the castle, and with guards surely coming.
