[ The Flora Parasitus, also known as Root of Corruption, is a species of plant first discovered on a planet not too far from Sol. When the plant was first discovered it was judged as harmless. That lasted until someone touched it. Upon coming into contact with suitable host, the plant instantly sends roots into the creature, trapping it as it is bound by the plant. What follows is a transformation that takes anywhere from minutes to months depending on the size of the host and the maturity of the plant, after which the host is released seemingly unharmed. However, the host is now carrying a network of roots formed by the plant that begin to suck nutrients and other useful materials from the host body and add them to its own network of roots while growing and taking over more and more of the host's body. Eventually, after an incubation period of about a month, the parasite invades the brain and forcibly takes control of the host body. At this point, a rapid transformation takes place and the host essentially becomes a walking plant. Surprisingly, these plants keep the host alive and able to communicate, if only to the parasite itself, hinting at some kind of inherent concience since the parasite gains no benefit from this. Additionally, the parasite is able to use the host's brainpower to compensate for its own lack of a central nervous system. ]
