Name: Aleksandr Artemyev [Alex Artem]
Age: 16
Gender: Male
Birthday: 30-11
Blood Type: AB-
Quirk: Electromagnetic Force Manipulation [Striker Emitter] Due to the complexity of the quirk, Alex does not have a good practical grasp on the uses of his quirk. In theory, he could be able to achieve a great range of activities, as Light, Electricity and Magnetism all come from the same fundamental force. But at the moment, his best use of the power is Diamagnetic Levitation of small objects (Up to the size and weight of a large bottle of water without too much stress) and Kinetic Propulsion of metal and metallic objects.
Even his ‘railgun’ aspect of his power is limited, as he uses the brute force of his powers in order to ‘throw’ projectiles. Trying to throw a shaped projectile will end with less than favorable results, as such he resorts to throwing spherical balls of lead at transonic speeds or below, as that is his optimal material to power use. Throwing anything faster than 100 m/s requires a lot of exertion. At his best, he can reach transonic speeds, just at 330 m/s, but this stresses him greatly, often causing him to pass out from exertion or, at worst, go into shock from the forces emitting from his body.
For instance, throwing something shaped as a rod or ‘bullet shaped’ will almost immediately tumble and land far below its effective range and with a large amount of inaccuracy. Even at his best, he can only manage to throw projectiles with poor accuracy at 50 meters, and with widely varying amounts of penetration, depending on what he is throwing at and the speeds at which he is throwing.
Additionally, any metal that he controls with his power will start to grow hot, as energy from the power he uses to move objects will bleed into the material as ‘waste heat’. Due to this, his power is not efficient as others. When he tries to Diamagnetically Levitate something, however, this waste heat is instead present in his hands, to a degree that is proportionate to the size and weight of the material he is trying to levitate. He has burned his hands quite severely at trying too hard to levitate something too large.
Likes: Studying Languages, American Metal, Oriental Foods, Science Magazines
Why He Wants To Be A Hero: At heart, Alex is a scientist. “Scientists were heros before quirks.”
His wish is to be able to study quirks at a more fundamental and base level. His belief is that quirks are the physical manifestation of a new type of Fundamental Force. A 5th Fundamental force in the universe, one that humanity can directly control to some extent. Even in his private research, he is unsure if he is correct in his assumption, or if it is something else different entirely. He doesn’t care about being right, so long as the correct answer is found somehow.
As with his name, he grew up in Russia. More specifically, near a Naukograd. A ‘science city’ in Moscow. His father was a quirkless geneticist, who worked in an institution, experimenting and studying various DNA from donors with quirks. The experiments are still ongoing and have found little success in the current fields in Moscow.
His reason is that seeing how quirks used in a practical manner will give him the answer and that studying his own quirk and enhancing it will only help him. What better way to do that than to become a Hero?
Other: Alex’s quirk manifested late, as he did not have a knowledgeable grasp on the physics surrounding his quirk. The first manifestation was him managing to levitate graphite pencil lead between his hands, shortly following a presentation in the science portion of his class about Werner Braunbeck and other early 20th century scientists in early middle school. Due to this, he doesn’t have the greatest handle on the finer points of his quirk. In short, he expends a lot of energy in order to perform some of the aspects of his quirk.
Additionally, he has a hard time reading at times, and in times of stress or rushed speech he does not have the greatest accent. He is more comfortable with Cyrillic and will often be reading leisurely materials in Russian.
Appearance: He appears more germanic than Russian, as his mother was German, a chemist who was working in the same lab as Aleksandr’s father. He often wears his father’s field jacket, in spite of whatever the weather is. His hands bear a lot of signs of manual labor as well as very uniform burns across his fingers and palms. The burns are quite fresh, but not so severe that they’ll be permanent scars that he’ll bare for his life and not so recent that they require bandages. He has short brown hair, but it is often sloppy, as his hair is thin and is constantly messed up by the slightest of occurrences, from sleeping to running a hand through his hair. Outside of his school uniform, he wears rather simple clothes. Often seen in dark jeans, a short sleeved shirt and, of course, his father’s jacket. On rainy days, he wears a very old, wide brimmed hat, one that was his grandfather’s. He is at a shorter than average height but still growing taller. Just like his father and mother he is quite slight in appearance, not very muscular looking, but athletic enough to not fall behind in the gym classes in his school before transferring to UA. His face is somehow older looking than he is, as he spends much of his time with wrinkled thoughtlines creasing his forehead. When he’s not in deep thought, or just letting his mind wander he has a somewhat bored expression, almost as if he isn’t aware of what is going on around him. He is slightly farsighted, often squinting to look at things clearly that are close to him. He has in the past been mistaken for ‘sizing someone up’ and has gotten into a few fights because of it.
As for his personality, he is somewhat distant. More than a little of his time has been devoted to study and working outside. Leaving Russia, he had very few friends, and knew very few people aside from his family. Although he is quite knowledgeable, he doesn’t think of himself as ‘smart.’ His study is more of a pastime to him. He finds other people interesting, but is not the best at approaching others, either for help or for friendly reasons. He wishes to be a hero and a scientist, figuring that helping people physically is just as noble as with knowledge. Due to all his time spent in study, he is less adept with people, often his mouth going faster than his mind when trying to express something or explain something in the heat of the moment.
