Aiolos was indeed no alchemist. But he was a smart man. Seeing the station, he could immediately see that though it was obviously not state of the art, these guys did know what they were doing. The bathtub was being used as a basin, making sure that any leakage would go down the drain. There was a collection of crystals in a pouch on the sink, and some chemicals on the ground beside it. The station itself was a three-stage set up. First a boiler, then a filter system, and finally another filtration system that ran on a bunsen burner. This kind of multi-stage set up was very refined, and would make for some very powerful potions.
The Erlenmeyer flask used to hold the current batch, however, would seem to have exploded over the Bunsen burner. One could assume the material of the flask had been faulty and did not resist the heat well enough.
