How to: Advanced stats
Stats might seem straightforward, but there are some less obvious benefits to your stats that you might not have noticed or know of. Below are listed all the stats and what benefits they have besides their direct influence on fighting.
Strength Your strength often determines how capable you are at dealing damage. But there are some other things you might not know. For one, having a high STR can make removing obstacles more easy. On the other hand you'll also be more effective at intimidating others in dialogue.
Dexterity Dexterity doesn't just influence how fast you attack. It also determines how agile you are. You'll be more capable at getting past obstacles. It also makes you more capable at sneaking past others. On another note, it makes pickpocketing and lockpicking go faster and smoother. Climbing and running will also go faster and with less hickups.
Perception Having a keen eye and sharp ears does more than simply be more accurate with your attacks. A high PER stat will make you more capable at spotting someone who is sneaking. It also makes you more capable at picking up on clues and finding hidden things. Now, how does 'being more able to spot something' play out in reality? Well, the staff dedicated to your character will write a situation differently based on your PER. The higher your PER, the more likely and the more expressive staff will be in leaving clues in dialogue. Here is a fictional example;
Low per: "John entered the room. A room filled with victorian era furniture. An aesthetic that was complimented by the art found in the room. There were plenty of places to hide a safe here."
High per: "John entered the room. A room filled with victorian era furniture. An aesthetic that was complimented by the art found in the room. There was quite some perfectionism that went into placing everything just right to create such a pleasant atmosphere; yet one painting seemed to hang just a little bit off, as if it had been moved recently."
Vitality Vitality may seem straight forward, but even vitality has some extracurricular benefits. Someone with an exceptionally high VIT might be able to resist the effects of poison, bleeding and stunning, just to name a few.
Intelligence Your intelligence is important for picking up on clues, solving puzzles or connecting dots. With a high INT, your character can be more tactical about a situation. In some cases, clues will be left by staff more obviously. Staff might also be more inclined to re-mention clues when your character is thinking about a problem. Finally, your character can be assumed to know more about the world. thus, when your character has more INT, staff might be inclined to deliberate on trivia that might be helpful in a situation.
Emotionality Your emotionality can be doubled as a sort of vitality. When your high-EMO character is damaged, they might be more capable to carry on. Not because they are physically more resistant, but because they can mentally force themselves to go further.
Soul and aura Attunement to soul and aura doesn't just mean attunement to your own soul and aura. Characters with high SAU can sometimes pick up better on the intentions of someone else, which essentially means they have better instincts. Here is an example of how that plays out;
Low SAU: "John was led into the alleyway by his new companions. According to them, the loot would be here somewhere."
High SAU: "As john was being led into the alleyway, a tingle crawled it's way up his spine. He could feel there was something very wrong about this situation."
