Howdy. I assume you are intrigued slightly about what I might have made? The somewhat cliche sounding name for a fantasy world? Well, this is a slightly... more interesting version. Well enough idle chat, I believe it is time to show off this little idea I came up with that might have occurred to me after I watched the For Honor trailer.
Something... went wrong. No, I am not talking about "Oh dear I forgot to mow the lawn", or a "I didn't do last night's homework." This was a much bigger problem, as in Cataclysmic proportions. The theory a majority of historians and researchers seem to have generally agreed upon was that there were several worlds, them being linked by possessing magic that was fairly similar aside from where they drew their power from. These worlds are known as Gaea, Sekai, and Diyar. There was another world, named Kuk, before... the Cataclysm. According to findings from various expeditions, Kuk was the most magically saturated in comparison to the other worlds, the more powerful residents having more magical energy in a drop of blood than an ordinary man has in his whole body. From there stemmed the downside to having such power... was their insatiable thirst for more. An common and natural reaction from having more magical prowess is a thirst for knowledge and interest in expanding their power. It is not uncommon for Magi to pledge themselves to a God or some sort of Spirit in order for a supply of knowledge or power, but there is always a limit of what they are willing to give- that limit typically balances with what the disciple is willing to sacrifice; Worship, Offerings, blood, living sacrifices, ect cetera. It is theorized that at first the inhabitants of the Kuk followed this pattern of worship at first... until approximately a year prior to the Merge. Oh dear, I appear to be droning on a bit, don't I? Well, in short, Too many dabbled in places and with powers too old and dark to be comprehended by most mortals. It is also speculated that several minor or weak Gods and Goddesses were killed in order to gain their experiences and power. The result of them dabbling in matters they had no business intruding in, is Kuk itself vanishing. It isn't entirely clear if it was from the anger of some ancient being retaliating, or that their very World and its people were offered for the needs of a few, but it is known that all of the now corrupted magic manifested across Gaea, Sekai and Divar as the Cataclysm; Day darkened into eternal night as clouds of Corrupted Magic and ash fell from the skies, raining down remains of Kuk over the three worlds. After a year, the Cataclysm finally dispersed, revealing a single gate where the Cataclysm began in each respective world. This portal led to what is referred to as the Rift, the last of Kuk, existing in between planes of existence as swathes of land impossibly suspended in an existence where the laws of reality are not always applied.
In the gist of it; Kuk exploded from bad voodoo, causing a year long Armageddon in the worlds of Gaea, Sekai, and Divar. For whatever reason, the magical residue of Kuk allowed gates to form- linking them all to the Rift. This also introduced all three of these worlds to each other. So at this moment, things are a bit of a stalemate between the countries and empires of the worlds.
Notes:The influence of magic has enhanced or worsened certain technologies. Divar is dominated by the Ottoman Empire, their technologies most advanced out of the three, yet their magicians are few. Their technological development is roughly mid fifteenth century. Examples of Divar Weapons include: Rifles, Fire-bombs, Blackpowder weapons, ect cetera. Sekai takes place in a world that is more or less Feudal Japan, and their magical development is the most advanced out of the three. However, their technological development is only at the thirteenth century. Examples of Sekai Weapons: Katanas, Enchantments, Artificial Magic, ect cetera. Gaea is Medieval Europe, with the introduction of Plate armor causing them to be the toughest of the three, and be relatively balanced in terms of Technology and Magic. I need not explain what Medieval weaponry might looks like.
