Name: Jeden SkrzydŁa AnioŁ
Species and race: Drach
Age, gender and element: 127, male, fire
Faction: None
Appearance: A 3m-tall Drach with red eyes and crimson scales. Although his head isn't as large as those usually sighted on Drachs, it doesn't mean his jaw is any less powerful. His body sports several scars from his battles, the most visible being the burn on his left pectoral, which he made to himself to always keep in mind that his heart and soul belong not to him, but to Arrior.
Background: This is the story of Jeden, a Drach that lived a peaceful life in a small nomad village in the Mongolian steppe. He was always eager to help in every way he could, and was thus liked among the inhabitants of the village.
One could wonder what a dragon is doing in such a small village, doing mundane chores. Let me explain.
A long time ago, when he was still a young dragon, Jeden was ambushed by hunters that planned to make a quick buck by killing a dragon and selling his parts. Admittedly, a good idea. Heavily injured, he still managed to shake off his aggressors. However, his wounds were very deep and despite his best efforts to stay conscious, he ended up passing out.
While he thought this would be the end, he woke up inside a small tent, unknowing of what happened. He could tell from the absence of light coming from outside that it was the middle of the night. He then noticed his wounds had been tended to, which, he thought, explained why he didn't die of blood loss during his coma. In addition, the one who did so seemed to have been very skilled, as he didn't have so much as a single scratch on his body, no matter where he looked. After a short time, an old Changeling entered the tent and, upon seeing he had woken up, introduced himself to the Drach.
His name was Leonard, and he was the one who found him unconscious on the ground. Apparently, he was part of a nomadic tribe that had set up camp nearby, and Jeden was on the path their migration had taken. Also, he actually hadn't been moved to a tent, as Leonard stuck to the basic principle of not carrying injured persons. He built the tent on top of him.
As Jeden was about to thank him, Leonard cut him off and said that as a holy water user, it was his duty to help whoever needed it, no matter what their circumstances may be. He concluded the discussion by saying that since it was still the night outside, they should both get to sleep.
The day after, Leonard asked him where he wanted to go so he could lead him, but Jeden, having no proper place to call home or to go back to, asked to stay with the tribe. Leonard first opposed the idea, but Jeden kept insisting, so much that Leonard actually got bored with it and accepted.
The years started coming, and they didn't stop coming. Jeden was helping around the camp, doing enough to earn the food he ate. However, not everyone has the (debatable) privilege of being able to ignore the passing of the years. Leonard, who was already aged when he saved him, finally let out his last breath. Jeden swore on his dying bed that he would do more than just the minimum.
From then on, he took every work he could on the village, helping whoever needed it like Leonard. It seemed that even though he wasn't conscious of it, he actually admired Leonard, who helped all those in need.
Even after Leonard's death, the years didn't stop coming, and close to a century passed. Life is peaceful. Nothing happens. The monotony of his life was for him the best proof that everything was well.
A day came where he was away from the village to fill up the water reserves. Usually he would be accompanied by a few other people, as carrying this much water alone would be impractical, but everyone was busy that day. He leisurely walked back to the village, like usual.
However, when he arrived, what he saw was not the usual. Fire and blood were reigning over the camp, dead bodies scattered everywhere. A short distance away from the camp, he saw a group of people walking away. They were mostly humans, but accompanied by some dwarves and even two giants. Jeden didn't know who they were, as he had never heard of the SPR. However, he didn't need to know who they were. The people he had lived with, whom he knew since their birth for most, who are basically his family, were dead. The people walking away were clearly at fault for what had happened, and they would pay dearly.
Giving in to rage, he rushed to them and killed one of the giants with his bare fists before the group could react.
To be honest, he only managed to kill the giant because he wasn't expecting anything to come from this direction, much less an actual dragon. However, now that his presence had been revealed, things would become more chaotic for Jeden. The soldiers, who were visibly trained to ignore this much surprise, almost instantly went into battle positions and started the offensive almost as fast. The poor Drach didn't stand a chance. The situation made a long-lost memory resurface from the depth of his hippocampus : the time when, as a child, he was almost killed by hunters. However, this time, the enemy was a unit of trained soldiers. He surely wouldn't be able to escape, and an unarmed fight against several people would place him at a disadvantage.
As he desperately tried to think of a way to survive this situation, a far memory came back to him. A memory of his saviour, Leonard.
At the time, Leonard was teaching Jeden a few things about the world, and this memory was where he taught him of the gods. He remembered one particular god : Errior, the god of fire, disaster, war, and the underworld. Truly a paragon of power, he thought. He also remembered that Arrior smiled upon those that fought against overwhelming odds, and those that lead others to victory.
He took the decision deep within himself that if he won this battle, he would devote his life to Arrior.
As the giant was about to finish him off, he felt an intense heat coming to him, and he reflexively pulled his arm back. Something had awakened inside Jeden. Something burning intensely, and that was pointed directly at the people surrounding him. In a flash, he ripped off the head of the closest dwarf and threw it in the giant's face, before hurling fire at the other humans in a violent blast. He then jumped on the giant's shoulder and tore apart his neck with his claws, slamming him on the burning humans that were too busy putting off the fire on their hair, crushing them under the corpse's weight. While this happened, the dwarves realised what they were up against, and tried to run away. However, their short legs couldn't take them to safety fast enough, as the bloody Drach quickly catched up to them and finished them off.
Once he was done, he kneeled and made an oath before the Trinity : he would devote the rest of his life to battle for Arrior, through the entire world and until the end of time, if need be. Nothing would stop his devotion.
After properly burying the corpses of the nomads, he gathered what little food remained from the camp's ruins and headed off into the unknown, looking for a fight to lead for his god.
Now, let's look at the fight from a bit closer. Did Arrior actually empowered him, allowing him to win? No, of course not. It is highly doubtful he would even know of his existence. However, his decision may have had a placebo effect, which led him to awaken his latent, unblossomed up until now, abilities. If not for those, he surely would have died. Moreover, he may have survived, but he was still injured… His devotion surely is good, but will that alone be enough to fight the world for his god?
