Name: Multifarious "Tifa" Agister, Lost Archivist of Hell
Species: Worker Demon (Gnosi)
Age, gender and element: ~17,000, Female, Earth
Faction: N/a
Appearance: Tifa is striking, even among the ever distinctive Gnosi. She wears what was once a prestigious academic robe, now stained with all manner of inks, wax, and assorted magical substances. Her bulging eyes are brilliant white, and her “hair” are twisting tendrils reaching down to her waist and fastened with a leather cord. Her face is round, with no visible mouth or nose, and her skin is a dull white. A messenger bag filled with assorted inks, feathers, and other academic tools hangs off her shoulder. She is 5'8".
Background:
The Gnosi were created millenia ago, one of countless siblings to service to the third Lord of the Underworld, the God of Knowledge. In these early days, the Worker Demons of the previous Lords were sufficient to deal with the steady flow of new souls and demonic creatures that manifested, allowing for the Gnosi to embrace their true purpose-- research. Understanding reality, the world, and magic to the best of their ability.
Multifarious Agister, or Tifa, manifested from the express interest and desire to understand animals and monsters, to understand the limits of shamanism and taming of beasts. However… due to the nature of Hell, her purpose was neither necessary nor valuable enough to warrant her leaving Hell. As such, she was tasked with the ever important but inglorious duty of organizing the research and findings of others. While other Gnosi flocked across reality and Hell, Tifa toiled in the depths of vast academy-cities of Hell-- assigned with her own branch of Cogniti's Grand Archives. Organizing specimens and samples and objects of value, preserving scrolls and findings with magic and what materials she had. Alone. No matter how hard she worked, or what help she temporarily recruited, countless more items and arrivals made her work a Sisyphean task.
For the first few millennia, the Imps were her rivals. Their mischief made her job as archivist immeasurably more difficult. They battled it out through pranks and traps, each trying to outdo the other and create ever more elaborate schemes. But over time, she came to understand them. Learn that even if she was hurt, they never meant any harm and only meant to have fun. She’d come to balance her life and her work with them, sometimes giving Imps free reign over empty parts of the archive, other times arranging for them to help her with the more difficult tasks as Archivist. Her mind slowly withered, but the Imps with their antics and company made the loneliness more tolerable. Her Birth Magi manifested during this time, during a harrowing encounter with a maddened Collector. It had stormed into her branch of the archives, wrenching the carefully organized and painstakingly neat samples and records from the shelves and cubbies. Tifa stormed over to the other Worker Demon, only to be thrown across the room by by the frenzied creature. The Imps screeched as they flew to her defense, engulfing the Demon in a flurry of claws and teeth, only to be batted away and crushed. Tifa flung out her hand, throwing what spells she had at the Collector to try and save her companions, only to feel... strange. One of the Imps, caught in the Collector's grip, suddenly swelled in size as it slipped away and latched on to the Demon's neck. Catching the Collector off-guard, it allowed Tifa time to make it to a nearby bookshelf and slam herself against it-- creaking and groaning as it tipped towards the other Worker Demon. The Collector only just managed to free itself from the Imp before the shelf crashed down upon, reducing it to a blackened smear across the ground.
She never did end up fixing that particular mess.
Over time, she noticed that fewer and fewer items would arrive to be sorted. While she was curious as to why, she did not question it. Only continuing with her duties and navigating the labyrinthian archives and fulfilling the duty assigned to her, even if it was not the task that Tifa was created for. She continued and continued and continued… until one day she realized that there were no more items to receive. And it was then she realized that the Archives were dusty, silent. The Gnosi once bustled and filled the Archives at all hours of the day, never relenting. And yet there it was. Quiet as a grave.
Tifa went towards the exit only to find the doors jammed, as if barred from the other side. The Archive’s Imps were just as confused as her, helping her search through the other tunnels and exits until they finally found an exit that just barely let her squeeze outside of the Archives-- only to find that both the building and Hell itself had changed. But she did not have much time to mingle with her fellow Worker Demons before a Summoning Circle surrounded her, engulfing her in a flash of light before all trace of her was vanished from Hell and straight to the Material World.
Namely? Australia.
Birth magi: Hellsmith - Tifa is not a very strong person, meaning she has to rely on others. Having lived in Hell all her life, she can give someone a spark of Hell's great majesty and power.
